The Free States Of Undrar - Background
Dominant Races
The Undrar Peninsular is populated mainly by humans but there are significant numbers of sylvan elves and a sprinkling of halflings as well. The small islands that dot the coastal fringes are home to sea-dragons while the hills in the
south are inhabited by harpies and ogres.Grimlocks and hobgoblins, orcs and goblins can also be found in the more out of reach areas of the peninsula.
Below the Halfein Ranges there are large cave systems ruled by tribes of bugbears. Duergar dwarves and drow also have there own realms in the darkness but their extent is unknown to most of the
surface dwelling races. Tribes of other creatures have small enclaves including troglodytes and quaggoths.
The seas, though dominated by the dragons on the surface hide a realm of thier own ruled over by tritons and ixitxachitl. Wars are common between these two races and the other marine dwellers are often dragged in to these conflicts. The mermen and the aquatic elves on the side of the tritons, sahuagin, locathah and koalinth on the other.
Politics
The peninsula is divided into a number of independant realms, the remenants of an older empire, the remains of which rule the lands on the north of the Straits of Mallrar. Their only common cause is to prevent the regrowth of the empire across the water. If that common enemy did not exist then they would be at constant, bloody war with each other. As it is, an uneasy truce hangs over the peninsula, minor skirmishes and disputes are common but the fear of invasion prevents them from escalating into major conflicts. They are known as the Rebel Pentad by the empire or the Free States of Undrar by those who rebelled.
Souram
The Kingdom of Souram is the largest and richest of the realms. It's fertile soil provides more food than the province needs allowing the surplus to be sold to the other realms. The hills are rich in minerals which feed the industrial areas of the city of Souram. Banditry is rife in the forests near tyhe border with Myndar. It is said that if a criminal or an escaped bondsman can evade capture for a year and a day he is free. Many of these end up as bandits in the Myndar Forest, though some cross the border into Myndar itself.
Democracy of a sort exists in Souram but it is corupt and bribary is almost compulsary. The ruling elite are Lawful Evil in alignment, laws are harsh and punisments cruel.
Pharanyas Hamlet
Mallrar
The Republic of Mallrar is in a constant state of military alert. The rulers are elected by the military from within their own ranks and tend to serve several eight year terms before standing down in favour of thier chosen succesors. There is a large standing army and a well equipped navy patrolling the coast. Anyone with a magical talent is conscripted into one or other of the forces. They are trained and paid well, and the Magistar Corps are feared by friend and foe alike.

Myndar
The Realm of the Silver Crown is much diminished from its peak under the Empire. Of all the realms of the Peninsula they were the most reluctant to leave the empire. The Realm once stretched from Harelda Watch in the north but this area was lost after the Treaty of Krulven Bridge was signed by the elven queen Silarlaele after the defeat of her army by that of Souram. Myndar forest lies across the border, the northern half the domain of bandits, supported by dissafected elves and fleeing bondsmen from Souram. The forest capital of Lerrech is more of a village than a metropolis most of the elven population living in scattered hamlets within the forest. To the south the mysterious Stones of Iriliniss are home to the Ashen Council, elven druids who advise the Queen.

Lune
The Syndicracy of Lune controls the passes through the Halfein Range and the coastal strip south of the Fens of Mallrar. The town of Lune deep in the shadow of Mount Mounyon is rulled by the various guilds. Most powerful is the dwarven mining guild that brings most money into the province's purse. Other major guilds include the hauliers and blacksmiths. Lune will trade with anyone who has money to pay for their goods including the remenants of the empire. The Ruins of Firinil and the Grave of Xulvayas are rumoured to be haunted and cursed. Few venture there and even fewer ever return to tell of what they have found.
The Village of Syrnargar
Rieryld
This island dukedom is in the gift of the government of the King of Souram and it tends to go to the heir to the throne when he comes of age. The grasslands of Wedara Isle are home to many wild beasts which are hunted for sport by the the King, the Prince and their guests. Rybrae is bleaker and is used as a penal colony.
