The White Bell Inn
- 1. Entrance Porch
- The welcome heat of the fire on a cold, damp day can already be felt in the shelter of the entrance. A solid wooden door set into solid, grey stone walls keeps out the wind and the damp on even the most blustery of days.
- 2. The Tap Room
- An assortment of mismatched tables and chairs fills most of the taproom. A bar fills the northern corner of the room behind which are a number of barrels, bottles and jugs. Hanging from the ceiling above the bar are several dried sausages and small hams. To the north east, behind thick red curtains are two more private tables. Space in these is tight and the flimsy wooden partitions do little to dampen the sounds of conversation. A large fireplace, upon which is usually a cauldron of stew, is set into the south-east wall.
- 3. The Fire Place
- A large stone fireplace upon which is usually a cauldron of stew. On feast days the inn keeper may roast a joint or two, but the stable food in the White Bell is stew, usually more beans and roots than meat.
- 4. Staircase
- The stairs lead up to the first floor rooms.
- 5. Jakes
- Behind a heavy green curtain is a wooden seat over a midden pit. The inn keeper pays to have it emptied twice a month.
- 6. The Bar
- The innkeeper usually taps two or three barrels of ale, a dark, a light and a special, all from the brewery next door. A selection of imported wines and spirits gather dust on a shelf behind the bar. A selection of highly spiced sausages, hard cheeses and dried hams hang from hooks in the ceiling above the bar.
- 7. The Brewery
- Most of the brewery's production goes to the White Bell but some is shipped to Rieryld. The good water for the beer is drawn from a well at the rear of the brewery.
- 8. Trapdoor
- A trapdoor leads into the cellar where stores for the brewery and the inn are kept.
- 9. Cellar
- This underground room is stuffed with stores. Sacks of grain and dried beans, barrels of salted fish and pork, urns of pickled vegetables and vinegar. Sacks of barley for malting are kept here as well. Some crates of goods brought in by Owec are sometimes stored here.
- 10. Upper Landing
- The upper floor of the White Bell is dark and dingy. Most rooms have a window but some rely on candlelight. Nellyra is mortally afraid that one day a fire will break out from a careless guest with a candle and Gwugwyn has promised he will fit proper sconces in all rooms but so far he has not got around to it.
- 11. Double Room
- Despite being near the stair and not having a window this is the most expensive room in the inn. It has a fine bed and a large lockable chest to store goods in. Gwugwyn charges 3gp a night for this room, though he will through in a meals for an extra gold pieces.
- 12. Two Bed Bedroom
- Two beds and a lockable chest are the only furnishings in this room. It does have a window however. Gwugwyn charges 25sp per night for the room or 15sp per bed.
- 13. Single Room
- A single bed and a lockable chest available for 15sp a night.
- 14. Single Room
- A single bed and a lockable chest available for 15sp a night.
- 15. Sacla's Chamber
- A single bed, a table with a chair before a window are in this room. Gwugwyn has fitted a good quality lock to the door to protect his daughter's honour. There is a secret chamber in the table where Sacla hides the love poems she writes for the bard Javalandaria. She doesn't have the courage to show them to him. She also keeps the inns accounts at this desk.
- 16. Gwugwyn's Chamber
- This room has a fine bed, a wardrobe and a fine rug to soften and warm the timber floor. The room has a good quality lock on the door.
- 17. Four Bunk Bedroom
- This room has two pairs of bunk beds and a pair of small lockable chests. Each bed is available for 7sp a night.
- 18. Single Room
- A single bed and a lockable chest available for 15sp a night.
- 19. Three Bed Bedroom
- A single bed and a bunk bed of poorer quality than most of the other rooms. Gwugwyn is planning to get better furniture when he can afford it. Each bed is available for 5sp a night.
- 20. Four Bunk Bedroom
- This room has two pairs of bunk beds. Each bed is available for 6sp a night.
- 21. Ladder
- The ladder leads to the loft.
- 22. Two Bed Bedroom
- Two beds and a lockable chest is the only furnishing in this room. It does have a window however. Gwugwyn charges 25sp per night for the room or 15sp per bed.
- 23. Male Bunkroom
- Four bunkbeds in a room with very limited headroom. On a hot night it can be quite stifling in here and on a cold one the thin blankets will offer little warmth. Damp patches on the floor and wall suggest that Gwugwyn needs to replace or repair a few loose tiles. Each bunk is available for 3sp a night.
- 24. Female Bunkroom
- 25. Javalandaria's Room
- While the bard is in the village, performing at the inn or just passing through he stays in this room. It has a bed, a table and a large wardrobe. Hanging on the wall is a mirror, Javalandaria takes great care over his appearance. Gwugwyn fitted a good lock on the door at Javalandaria's request.
