Bronsdale

Personalities

Here are some of the more important and colourful characters that inhabit the village of Bronsdale.

Sir Richard Munis - Mayor of Bronsdale

Sir Richard is still in the prime of life and is a respected citizen of the village of Bronsdale and everyone looks up to him, but more of that later. He is rather plain looking and dresses simply. He probably does this to draw attention away from his height. He has to stoop to go through most doorways and looks uncomfortable when seated at most tables, his legs bent like that of a crane fly which gives him a slightly comical air. His only gaudy detail is a ring which he wears at all times, refusing to take it off for any reason.
He is respectful to others and is always truthful. He is a bit of a hedonist and enjoys the finest wines and he is usually one of the first to visit the merchants after a caravan comes in.

Charles Greycloak - Cleric of Asterius

Charles Greycloak is a middle-aged halfling cleric of Asterius, but he looks far older, he is thin, almost skeletal in appearance. He was born in one of the more remote parts of Darokin and moved here 20 years ago. He is sober minded, straightforward and predictable but he can turn aggressive if his faith is questioned.

Rudolfo 'Strong-arm' Bandini - Blacksmith

Rudolfo is a man of average height with a dark oily complexion and neatly trimmed black hair starting to grey at the temples. He is in his early thirties. Earlier in his life he served with the Darokin Army but was drummed out of the service when his inaction caused a bad defeat at the hands of the orcs. He took a nasty wound to the face which healed badly. He is however still very attractive to members of the opposite sex. He has a swagger about him that combined with his general arrogance gives you the idea that he will pull a knife at the slightest hint of an insult. He has a thin but wirily strong build and tends to wear his old, slightly out of date, military uniform when not working in his smithy. In his work he is precise and exacting, expecting the same from his apprentices, but can be absent minded when not working with his hands. He has a lecherous eye which combined with his attractiveness to women has led to a number of broken hearts and bastards in the village. While in the army he served as an archer but also learnt to survive in the mountainous border of the Broken Lands and it was here that he learnt how to construct and repair armour. He has a soft spot for animals and has a number of cats living in and around the smithy.

Marili 'Lionmane' - Smith

Marli is a female elf originally from Aelfheim. Her nickname comes from her long mane of golden hair that she ties into a leather wrapped ponytail when working the forge. She specialises in small items, daggers, arrowheads and household items as well as simple locks and the occasional shield. She works with silver as much as she does with iron and steel. Her skill with locks means that she is sometimes called upon to help merchants open trunks where the key has been lost. She is lithe and lightly muscled and is attracted more to other women than to men. She is known for her numerous friends as well as her rather disrespectful tongue. She is always slagging off the mayor but he just shrugs and lets her get away with it. She has a fine wagon which she uses when she needs to travel to pick up raw materials or deliver finished goods.

Careless Kate - Innkeeper of the Sandy Cove Inn

Kate is the half-orc innkeeper of the Sandy Cove inn, but it is hard to tell. Aside from a slight greenish tinge to her skin, her stocky build and her larger than average teeth her orcish features are not prominent. More unusual is her webbed fingers and toes which she blames for her clumsy nature, she keeps the potter in the village very busy as she is always breaking jugs and bowls. She is an accomplished brewer and the beers she brews are the best in the area. She usually sells one or two to the caravan owners as they pass through as they travel well. There is a sign on the door to the inn that says, 'Please leave furs in the porch' as she is mildly allergic to furs of all kinds. If she comes close to any she will start sneezing and it makes her fumble-fingers even worse. She is also reluctant to touch human men and prefers it if one of her staff serves them. She also hates the sight of blood and has been known to faint right away after a bar fight or even if someone nicks themselves with a blade. Generally though she is calm and unflustered but she does tend to spend a lot of money of fripperies like fabric and cheap jewellery. She is also an accomplished hunter and sets traps in the woods to snare rabbits and wild boar for the table of the inn. She is close friends with Roly the bard who plays in the taproom.

Roland 'Roly' Beetlefoot - Minstral at the Sandy Cove Inn

Roland is a halfling and is Bronsdale's resident minstrel who lives and works in Bronsdale's largest inn, The Sandy Cove. Roly is very short, even other halflings call him short. This combined with his rather plain features mean that his fame is based solely on his ability to entertain. His jokes are funny, his music tuneful and his tales fascinating. He is very respectful and is known for his wisdom, a very unusual trait in one of the Hin. Roly enters into all activities with a rambunctious enthusiasm that often has people smiling. He served for a time in the XXIV legion under Bishop Arthur Tremontaine where he learnt to dodge and hide rather than get drafted into digging the latrines. The Bishop liked Roland's enthusiasm and trained him in some of the finer points of Darokin law. During an early conflict with a band of orcs in the borderlands Roly took a deadly injury but was saved by the Bishop, but since then he has had to drink much more water than is normal due to the damage done to his kidneys.

Juan Puente - Bounty Hunter

Juan is a quiet man, partly due to a nasty throat injury and partly because that is the way he is. He says that he comes from Glantri but is vague about where in that large nation he originates. The simple garb of a traveler is his normal attire; he does not like to attract attention; that would be counter productive. He is known around town as someone that can be trusted to find something, or someone; for a price. His most distinguishing feature is his floppy, slightly greasy hair that he is always brushing out of his eyes. He wears a locket with a miniature of a young girl around his neck, his daughter he says, that he hasn't seen for many a year.

Tani - Leatherworker

Tani is an impressively muscled woman with a warm smile and close cropped black hair. The smile is slightly ruined by a missing front tooth, lost when her mule butted her a year or so ago. She is married to Darro, a forester, and the pair has two young children who are often seen playing in the garden and the edge of the forest. She usually wears leather aprons and the smell of leather hangs about her. She is a skilled leather worker and is able to produce both decorative items and armour. She has never been seen in the temple and has no time for clerics. She relies on herbal concoctions for ailments.

Eamane Culnamo - Scribe

Eamane (A-MA-neh Cul-NA-mo) is well respected member of the village. She writes letters for those that cannot write themselves, copies scrolls and texts for the temple and keeps the books for some of the merchants. She also scribes scrolls for sale in the weekly market. Most of these are simple charms and cantrips. She is known for her trusting nature and this has led to her being quite poor as she believes her customer's sob stories and lets them off paying for goods far too often. She is short and stout for an elf and her waddling gate has given her the nickname of 'Ducks'. She is proud and is rarely known to ask for help, she would rather bluff it out with a 'I can do it!' attitude. She has a fine white horse which bears her weight without complaint and the pair often rides the forest trails which reminds her of her ancestors' home of Alfheim. She originally wanted to be a cleric but she found she had a phobia of corpses and the undead which rather hampered her adventuring aspirations.
She is a close friend of Owen Mitchell, owner of Mitchell's Rare Books and she helps him repair torn bindings and copy rare or valuable scrolls.

Sara Amraniel - Manager of the Caravanserai

Sara is the manager of the Bronsdale Caravanserai. A half-elf of middling years and small stature she is heavily muscled from years of hard work running the busy way station. She doesn't like shirkers and she is known as a bit of a harridan, shouting and haranguing those who don't pull their weight. Her office is a mess and it can take her ages to find anything important which can irritate visitors and workers alike. For someone so strong and fit she has a very low pain threshold, something that amuses her friends and colleagues. She is a devout follower of Yamuga and has a small shrine set up in her quarters. She speaks of her Immortal at every opportunity praising her for everything that goes right and blaming herself when things go wrong, Yamuga is never at fault. She is very smart and has a good knowledge of the local area.

Lothander - Caravanserai Guard Captain

Lothander, chief guard of the Caravanserai, was born amongst the elves of southern Glantri but moved with the rest of his family to Darokin over one and fifty years ago. He is tall and heavily muscled for an elf, this combined with his penchant for dressing impressively means that he is hard to ignore when he strides through the village. He is self-confident and is rarely flustered by anything. He is able to concentrate with great intensity on whatever he is doing and this helped him survive numerous skirmishes with humanoid tribes in the Broken Lands while he was with the Darokin army. Finally after one particularly tough battle with a army of orcs and trolls Lothlander took a blow to the knee that almost cost him his leg. He was too badly injured to continue his army career but the letter of commendation he received from his commander enabled him to take up his position in Bronsdale fifteen years ago and carry on the defence of his adopted country. The letter, it is said, is framed and hangs on the wall in his room.

Gregory Callister

Gregory is the cousin of the leader of Toney House, the smallest of the merchant houses of Darokin. At 44 he is not as strong as he was, not that he was ever a powerful physical presence but he is over 6' tall which does make him imposing. By nature he is rude and suspicious when he first meets someone, especially since the loss of so many of his caravans to bandits and orcs. However once he gets to know you his true nature is revealed, a warm and friendly man in his middle years. He is a skillful merchant and can usually get the best price on a deal. He is frustrated that he is stuck here when he could be using his skills in the head office but he realizes that a wise head is needed in this dangerous location.

Don Pascal

The young wizard started adventuring with Kuldan and the others but after nearly dying decided that he would stay closer to home. He has still had some adventures in the area surrounding Bronsdale and is now a respected figure in the village. He is in his early twenties (23), short (5’ 5"), stocky with dark hair and a thin pencil moustache. He dresses flamboyantly around Bronsdale but when travelling he becomes more pragmatic, leaving behind his shiny boots and frilly silk shirts for more practical woollens and linens.
Pasqal is not muscular but is not scared of a fight; however he would rather fight from a distance using spells and his crossbow. He is agile and calm which makes him an excellent shot. Don Pasqal or to give him his full name, Don Pasqal de Belcadiz is from Glantri but decided to live in Darokin because of a vision he had. He heard a bell tolling under a mountain; a chalice brimming with blood; a snow storm in summer; giant beetles vomiting golden coins; snakes in a spider’s web; flying lions and always the tolling of an iron bell. This is what also set him upon the road of divination and he has chosen to specialise in that school at the expense of foregoing any necromantic powers.

He did well in his studies at the School of Magic not outstanding but in the top quarter of his year. He is still in correspondence with his Divination tutor, Master Alphonse de Castillio. He lodges with Owen Mitchell, of Mitchell’s Rare Books, and pays for his room by using his Comprehend Languages spell and Spellcraft skill to identify books and items that Owen purchases. He has a natural flair for languages and he spends much of his spare time poring over books in Mitchell’s shop using his Comprehend Languages spells to help learn new tongues. This means that sometimes his pronunciation is a little off but he can make himself understood in many languages, human, demi-human and monsterous.
He cares little for the battle between Law and Chaos but is naturally good hearted and will not see evil prosper.
