The Seven Section NPC

Occupation & History:

Javier is a military man; he has spent time in the Glantri army and navy with great distinction fighting the forces that threatened the Principality of Boldavia with fearsome vigour. In his youth he ran away from home and fell into the clutches of a local crime lord and used his strength and nimbleness to raid rich money lenders. On one night he and his two companions stole a rich haul of gems and jewels but they left him with nothing in the rush to escape. He settled with his aunt and uncle and when his uncle died he inherited a small tavern, The Blue Lady, which he has run since he left the military.

Physical Description:

Of average height and build, his most striking feature is his long mane of copper coloured hair and beard. He is not blessed with great intelligence, though neither is he stupid. He is friendly but prone to anger. He has a nasty scar on his throat, an injury that finally led to him leaving the military.

Attributes & Skills:

He has knowledge of navigation, tracking and war which he picked up while serving in the military. He is skilled with sword and bow as well as being an accomplished horseman. He is strong and hearty yet nimble.

Values & Motivations:

He is strongly attached to the inn his uncle left him even though business is not good. He still hopes one day to track down the two rogues that made off with his share of gems from his last haul. When the anniversary of that fateful day comes round he shuts the tavern and drinks himself into oblivion and it is a foolish man who comes knocking on the door seeking drink or shelter.

Interactions with Others:

He can be a friendly host when the mood takes him but he can also be gruff and angry. He is unenthusiastic about most things other than his inn and his hopes of revenge.

Useful Knowledge:

He hides his vampiric nature well. In his last battle he slew the leader of the invading army in single combat but little did he know that his foe was a vampire and at the end he passed his taint onto Javier. He only kills when he has too as he knows that he is not powerful or rich enough yet to avoid the law, yet. He seeks out knowledge of the two rogues from all who travel through by regaling them of tales of his adventures.

Distinguishing Feature:

It is hard to miss his mane of copper coloured hair, his full beard and the puckered scar on his throat which makes his voice deep and husky. He has a set of dark green plate armour from his military days.

Adventure Hooks:

For Low Level PCs (Levels 1-6)

The PCs stay at the Blue Lady and hear Javier's tale of how he was robbed of his riches by two vile rogues. He doesn't mention his part in the robbery. He offers a tenth of the value of the gems and jewellery to anyone who can find the rogues. He mentions that they were last heard of in a town a day's ride away.

For Medium Level PCs (Levels 7-14)

On the anniversary of the robbery Javier gets very drunk and angry and goes on a killing spree in the town. The PCs are staying nearby and have to hunt the vampire down before too many people are killed.

For High Level PCs (Levels 15-20)

Javier has finally got the gems and jewellery back from the thieves and has slowly built up a coterie of vampires and vampire spawn under his command. He has gained in power from his careful accumulation of wealth and experience and with the sponsorship of Prince Morphail Gorevich-Woszlany. He is now ready to expand his territory into that of the McGregor clan. The McGregor's have got wind of this and hire the PCs to kill Javier, his undead army and destroy his fortified base, the former Blue Lady tavern.
